Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus of Nazareth lived among us. He invited people into a real, living relationship with God the Father — the Creator of everything we can see and we can’t. God himself is uncreated. Everything else exists because of him. According to Scripture, Jesus is God in human form, the promised Messiah, sent out of love for sinners like us. Even though he was condemned and executed on a Roman cross, death did not defeat him. But he had overcome the world. He rose from among the dead and sent his followers out into the world, promising to stay with them and to strengthen them through the Holy Spirit.
God created the universe good: full of meaning and beauty. But sin entered the story and broke our relationship with him. Still, God didn’t turn away. In mercy, he sent Jesus to take our sin and carry its judgment. On the cross at Calvary, Jesus willingly gave his life out of obedience and love. Because of his death, our sins are forgiven. Because of his righteousness, we are made right with God. He brings peace where there is distance, and also freedom where there is bondage.
This is the heart of his good news: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (Jn. 3:16, ESV). Salvation is a gift from God. It is received by faith alone — not something we earn. It is by grace alone for God’s glory alone. As Scripture says, “The righteous shall live by faith.” His followers live each day trusting in him, shaped by the witnesses of the apostles and prophets, and grounded in the truth of God’s Word (Ep. 2:20). It’s a message meant for everyone. It is a message that never grows old.
